From the battlefield to the backyard

MY STORY

A man with a beard, wearing a black shirt, tan shorts, and hiking boots, is kneeling on the ground petting a German Shepherd dog lying on its side, in a crowded outdoor gathering with colorful balloons, people standing and sitting, some holding drinks, and a clear blue sky.

Codie McNeil

I spent years in the Army, living a life defined by discipline, structure and a clear mission. When you're in that environment, everything makes sense. The rules are absolute, and your squad is your family.

Coming home was a different battle. Like many veterans, I struggled with PTSD and the disorienting feeling of being lost in civilian life. The structure was gone. The quiet was deafening. I found myself searching for a purpose that made sense again.

The turning point came at the VA, when I met a fellow veteran and his service dog. Watching them communicate without a single word changed everything for me. I discovered a natural gift for reading dogs—understanding their anxiety, their drive and their need for leadership. That gift became my calling. Now, I help others build that same unbreakable bond with their dogs.

PHILOSOPHY

Why I train dogs

Dogs communicate differently

1

Most people just don't know how to listen. I bridge the translation gap between human expectations and canine instincts.

Misunderstanding, not defiance

2

Most behavioral problems come from a lack of clarity, not aggression or stubbornness. Clear rules create calm dogs.

The human is part of the equation

3

The goal is to teach BOTH the owner and the dog. Training a dog without training the owner is a temporary fix.

Trust is the foundation

4

Commands without trust don't stick. We build a foundation of mutual respect before demanding obedience.
